A solid foundation for a large membrane canopy with Kamst Roofs

On a beautiful four-hectare site in Avonturenpark in Oploo, which was developed in 2006, the open-air theater “De Speultuin” accommodates over 200 visitors. “We wanted to create a canopy so that the theater could be enjoyed all year round,” explains Tiny Hendriks, chairman of Graancirkel Oploo.

A solid base for the canopy

Every strong structure starts with a reliable foundation. For the canopy to withstand wind, rain, and daily use, the foundation is just as important as the membrane canopy structure itself. “We use ground screws because they provide a strong foundation without the need for digging or concrete,” says Koos Kamst, owner of Kamst Roofs. Using FIRST BASE ground screws not only saves time during installation but also ensures a stable base to support the canopy.

Choosing quality from the start

During the planning phase, Tiny and the team had to choose a foundation. “When we saw the ground screw elements in a video, it was immediately clear they were strong and of high-quality,” Tiny explains. The professionalism of the installation equipment also left a strong impression. “The choice was easy and never an issue,” he adds. Knowing the foundation was reliable gave the team confidence that the canopy could be installed safely, quickly, and remain stable for years to come.

The installation process

The installation required precise planning and careful execution. In just one day, 17 ground screws were installed: 11 for the main posts and 6 for bracing the taller masts, supporting a canopy that spans a total of 220 m². The posts were inserted directly into FIRST BASE’s RIM model ground screws, which have a 140 mm diameter and a hollow design that provides a strong and stable hold for posts and uprights. Using the XE 5.0 installation machine combined with the torque multiplier for extra power, each screw was installed quickly and with accuracy, creating a solid foundation.

Koos concludes: ‘’The project was large, but with ground screws, installing the foundation on site was straightforward and could be completed in just one day.”
