Solar Fields Along A16 Completed with a Capacity of 3 MW

Along the new A16 motorway near Rotterdam, FIRST BASE Solar Systems has installed the ground screw foundations and mounting structures for over 5,200 solar panels. At six different locations, the structures have been cleverly integrated into the cloverleaf interchanges at the on- and off-ramps.

By using ground screws with varying diameters, we were able to achieve the required load-bearing capacity—even in the often challenging, unstable soil around Rotterdam. The energy generated is stored in a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), allowing the highway to operate entirely energy-neutral. A great example of how large-scale infrastructure and sustainable energy generation can reinforce one another.
